What is a bridge camera?
A camera with a built-in lens that still offers manual settings and often an electronic viewfinder. It bridges the gap between both worlds – hence the name.
What are its advantages?
Plenty of zoom, versatile settings, and yet lighter and more compact than a DSLR. Good for anyone who wants more than a compact camera but doesn't need a system with interchangeable lenses.
How does it differ from a compact camera?
Compact cameras are smaller and usually fully automatic. Bridge cameras have more powerful zoom, manual modes, and more control.
How far does the zoom reach?
Many models offer 20x to over 60x optical zoom – that is, real, lossless magnification through the lens. Practical for wildlife, sports, and travel.
Are there models with a viewfinder?
Yes, many have an electronic viewfinder. In bright sunlight, it is much more comfortable than the screen.
Can I shoot manually?
On most models, yes – aperture, shutter speed, and ISO can be adjusted. A good introduction to creative photography.
Are there bridge cameras with RAW?
Some, yes. RAW allows for lossless post-processing. Whether your model can do this is stated in the product description.
Can I use accessories?
Depending on the model: hot shoe, filter thread, or microphone input. What is available is stated in the product description.
How do we assess the condition?
Bridge cameras are assigned one of four classes: Good, Acceptable, Partially Defective, or Defective. Which one it is, you can see from the symbol at the top left of the product image and as a line below the price. More about this: How we check bridge cameras.
Are the battery and charger included?
Usually yes, unless otherwise stated in the product title. Memory cards are not included.
How long does shipping take?
You can find shipping times and payment methods under Shipping and Payment.
How do I return an item?
You can request a return on the Returns page. Regardless of this, your statutory right of withdrawal applies.
