Viewfinders – frequently asked questions

An optical viewfinder that you attach to the camera's accessory shoe. It shows you the framing for a specific focal length.

Especially for cameras without their own viewfinder, for wide-angle lenses whose framing is not covered by the built-in viewfinder, and for rangefinder cameras with interchangeable lenses.

It is usually stated on the viewfinder itself, for example 35 mm or 28 mm. The viewfinder must match the focal length of your lens, otherwise the framing will not be correct.

Approximately. Because it is positioned next to the lens, there is a slight shift – more pronounced with close-up subjects. Some viewfinders have markings for this.

Yes, some combine both. They show you the framing while also helping you focus.

Mechanically, usually yes, if the camera has a standard accessory shoe. The important thing is that the focal length matches.

We check the optics for clarity and the shoe for a secure fit. Dust or minor signs of wear are possible, as long as they do not impair visibility.
