Information on the disposal of old batteries
The following notice is intended for those who use batteries or products with built-in batteries and no longer resell them in the form in which they were delivered (end users):
1. Free return of used batteries
Batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. You are legally obliged to return used batteries to ensure proper disposal. You can dispose of them at a municipal collection point or at a local retailer. As a battery distributor, we are also obligated to take back used batteries. However, our obligation to take back is limited to used batteries of the type that we carry or have carried as new batteries in our product range. You can therefore either return used batteries of the aforementioned type to us with sufficient postage or hand them in free of charge at our shipping warehouse at the address listed in the imprint.
2. Meaning of the battery symbols
Batteries are marked with the symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin (see below). This symbol indicates that batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. For batteries containing more than 0.0005 percent mercury by mass, more than 0.002 percent cadmium by mass, or more than 0.004 percent lead by mass, the chemical name of the pollutant used is located below the wheeled bin symbol – where "Cd" stands for cadmium, "Pb" for lead, and "Hg" for mercury.

Spring-Driven Film Advance Instead of Electric Film Advance
The Ricoh Auto Shot combines automatic film advance with a spring-driven mechanism. This is an unusual operating concept: the transport is mechanically prepared and advances the film after taking the picture. At the end of the film, you wind it back with the crank. Motorized advancement powered by batteries is therefore not implied.
Automatic Mode with Fixed Shutter Speed
According to the original manual, the exposure automatic mode operates at 1/125 second; 1/30 second is specified for the manual setting. The automatic mode is therefore not comparable to free shutter speed selection or modern multi-program automatic exposure. For moving subjects and low light, you should consciously take this limitation into account when planning.
Four Zones for Distance
The fixed Rikenon has a 35 mm focal length and an aperture of f/2.8. You set the distance manually using a four-zone system. The viewfinder helps with framing, but does not automatically focus the subject. Therefore, setting the correct distance remains important before every shot.
35mm Film with Its Own Operating Rhythm
The camera uses 35mm film. The manual describes a fixed relationship between the loaded film, the wound spring mechanism, and the shutter release. This makes the Auto Shot particularly interesting if you are looking for a mechanically oriented snapshot concept and want to embrace its operating sequence.
Choosing an Unusual Mechanical Concept
The Auto Shot is particularly interesting if you want to experience the spring-driven mechanism as part of the operation. The automatic film advance should not be confused with full automatic exposure: the distance remains manual, and the shutter speed range is fixed. This combination places a different emphasis than a classic SLR camera or a later motorized AF compact camera. Your preferred operating rhythm should suit this.
