Information on the disposal of old batteries
The following notice is intended for those who use batteries or products with built-in batteries and no longer resell them in the form in which they were delivered (end users):
1. Free return of used batteries
Batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. You are legally obliged to return used batteries to ensure proper disposal. You can dispose of them at a municipal collection point or at a local retailer. As a battery distributor, we are also obligated to take back used batteries. However, our obligation to take back is limited to used batteries of the type that we carry or have carried as new batteries in our product range. You can therefore either return used batteries of the aforementioned type to us with sufficient postage or hand them in free of charge at our shipping warehouse at the address listed in the imprint.
2. Meaning of the battery symbols
Batteries are marked with the symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin (see below). This symbol indicates that batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. For batteries containing more than 0.0005 percent mercury by mass, more than 0.002 percent cadmium by mass, or more than 0.004 percent lead by mass, the chemical name of the pollutant used is located below the wheeled bin symbol – where "Cd" stands for cadmium, "Pb" for lead, and "Hg" for mercury.

Fast Standard Zoom for Nikon DX
The 17–55/2.8 is expressly designed for the Nikon DX format. Its range extends from wide shots to closer views, while the maximum aperture of f/2.8 remains constant throughout the zoom. This helps you continue working with the same maximum aperture when changing the framing. DX refers to the image circle and is not the designation of the focus motor.
The image circle limit is crucial
The original manual explains that the image circle is reduced compared to standard 35mm lenses. According to Nikon, the lens can be mounted on a 35mm film SLR, but it does not produce flawless results there due to the reduced image field. For a camera with a larger image format, the question of image field coverage must therefore be clarified first, even if the mount fits mechanically.
AF-S and manual override
The model has a Silent-Wave focus drive and internal focusing. In M/A mode, you can manually override the autofocus using the separate focus ring; the exact procedure is described in the lens manual. This is helpful if you want to deliberately change the automatically found focal plane. After reactivating the camera's focus, autofocus will resume.
G-type aperture, close-up range, and accessory limitations
As a G-Nikkor, the lens has no aperture ring; the aperture setting is done on the appropriate camera body. Nikon specifies a 0.36 m close-up limit at 35 mm and a 77 mm filter thread. The manual excludes all teleconverters as well as the mentioned PK/K extension rings and bellows devices. These specific limitations are more important than a general Nikon F designation when doing close-up or telephoto setups.
